邓小平在会见利比里亚国家元首、武装部队总司令多伊时，介绍中国经济建设的历史经验。指出：我们现在正一心一意搞建设，力争经济有较快的发展。现在我们的国民生产总值按人口平均只有二百五十到二百六十美元。我国人口多，如果国民生产总值按人口平均每人增加一百美元，国民生产总值就要增加一千亿美元。人多有人多的麻烦，很多问题不容易解决。目前，我国实行经济开放政策，争取利用国际上的资金和先进技术，来帮助我们发展经济。这一政策已开始有些效果。但是，从发达国家取得资金和先进技术不是容易的事情。有那么一些人还是老殖民主义者的头脑，他们企图卡住我们穷国的脖子，不愿意我们得到发展。所以，我们一方面实行开放政策，另一方面仍坚持建国以来毛泽东主席一贯倡导的自力更生为主的方针。必须在自力更生的基础上争取外援，主要依靠自己的艰苦奋斗。中国的经验第一条就是自力更生为主，再就是重视发展农业。不管天下发生什么事，只要人民吃饱肚子，一切就好办了。搞工业，规模也不要太大，可搞些中小型项目。根据我们的经验，步子不能迈得太快、太急。过去，我们搞得太急，发生了一些错误，我们叫“左”的错误，这样经济发展的速度反而慢了。现在要发展经济，还是要靠自力更生、量力而行这个原则。这个谈话收入《邓小平文选》第二卷，题为《我国经济建设的历史经验》。
2020年5月6日
习近平主持召开中共中央政治局常务委员会会议，听取疫情防控工作中央指导组工作汇报，研究完善常态化疫情防控体制机制。会议要求，及时总结和运用好湖北省和武汉市疫情防控实践中行之有效的做法，围绕暴露出的问题补短板、堵漏洞、强弱项，理顺医药卫生体制，改革疾病预防控制体系，提升疫情监测预警能力，完善公共卫生应急法律法规，健全重大疫情、公共卫生应急管理和救治体系。要坚持预防为主，创新爱国卫生运动的方式方法，推进城乡环境整治，完善公共卫生设施，大力开展健康知识普及，提倡文明健康、绿色环保的生活方式。

1952年
5月6日 中共中央批转中财委《关于全国钢铁工业的发展方针、速度与地区分布问题的报告》。中财委报告指出：在第一个五年计划期间，必须把鞍山钢铁厂的建设作为首要任务，集中全国力量，如期完成，以奠定全国钢铁工业进一步发展的基础。还有必要开始进行建设第二个大钢铁厂的工作。同日，中共中央批准了关于恢复与改造鞍钢初步设计的报告。
1994年
5月6日 中共中央发出《关于新形势下加强党校工作的意见》。指出，党校办学水平的提高和事业的发展，关键在于解放思想、实事求是、深化改革。
1995年
5月6日 中共中央、国务院作出《关于加速科学技术进步的决定》，确定实施科教兴国战略。26日，江泽民在全国科学技术大会上讲话指出，创新是一个民族进步的灵魂，是一个国家兴旺发达的不竭动力。我们必须在学习、引进国外先进技术的同时，坚持不懈地着力提高国家的自主研究开发能力。
2015年
5月6日 我国自主创新、拥有完整自主知识产权的第三代核电技术“华龙一号”首堆示范工程正式落户福清核电并开工建设。
